Law is one of the oldest professions. There always have been and always will be lawyers. What follows are two good reasons to become a lawyer.
First, there will always be a need for lawyers. Law is the language that is used to organize society. There will always be social problems. All social problems eventually become legal problems. There are many different kinds of lawyers. In fact, the practice of law is so diverse that you could change careers ten times in your life and still call yourself a lawyer. As society evolves certain kinds of lawyers will become obsolete and new opportunities will be created for new kinds of lawyers. For example, the advent of no fault automobile insurance schemes will decrease the demand for the services of lawyers who specialize in automobile accident litigation. But, the increasing number of elderly people will increase the demand for lawyers who represent the interests of the elderly. Every major change in society will create a new set of legal problems and will create a demand for the services of lawyers who are willing to work in that area. The Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms did not exist prior to 1982. Now there are lawyers who earn a very good living practicing in this area of law. Most people weren't even aware of the internet until 1994. Now many lawyers make a "good living" practicing the "law of the internet." Many of you could find yourself practicing in an area of law that doesn't even exist today.
Second, there are always plenty of opportunities for good people. Relax! Those who choose to the things that they like always find that they are successful. One of the reasons that people are attracted to certain kinds of work is that they like it.
Conclusion
There is unlimited opportunity in the world!
Take advantage of some of it!
If that means going to law school then do it!
If it means something else, then do that!
Be positive!
Be happy!
Be successful!
